SS Sambut 1943

Special Interest : Neap ‘n’ Deep Tec Week #1

Spanning Monday 20th June to Sunday 26th June 2022, the tides are in our favour and with the longest daylight hours of the year, the window is open for some cracking wreck diving this neap week. The plan is to dive some of the deeper wrecks, both our favourites and some dived less often. Targets include:

– MV Andaman [+1953] @ 32m/51m
– SS Cuvier (+1900) @ 32m/48m
– HMS Flirt [+1916] @ 38m/40m
– SMS G-85 [+1917] @ 34m/36m
– SMS G-42 [+1917] @ 40m/48m
– SS Luna [+1919] @ 36m/50m
– SS Henry B. Plant [+1945] @ 21m/38m
– SS Sambut [+1944] @ 40m/52m

A little trivia. SMS G42 was a 1913 Type Large Torpedo Boat (Großes Torpedoboot) of the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine) during World War I. As part of the German Sixth Half-Flotilla of the Third Flotilla, she took part in a large scale raid into the English Channel on the night of 26th/27th October 1916 to attack the British drifters as they attended their nets. This raid became known as the First Battle of the Dover Strait. A number of vessels were lost that fateful night including HMD Waveney II, SS The Queen, HMS Nubian and of course the popular HMS Flirt.

Ideally suited to technical OC and CCR divers, these offshore dives will be priced at £80.00. As such, space and diver numbers will be limited.
