Trip Overview

With the travel and tourism sectors opening up in Scotland recently, we have the opportunity to dive Scapa Flow in the late summer of 2020. We have first refusal to dive the dates of Sunday 30th of August to Friday 4th September upon the renowned and award winning MV Valhalla.

With Covid-Safe systems and protocols in place, this trip will be limited to just 6 divers with each diver having his/her own cabin and with similar restrictions on the diving deck, there will be plenty of space.

Travel Logistics

We will need to make our own way to the Northlink Ferry Terminal at Scrabster to take one of the crossings to Stromness on Saturday 29th August 2020. There are three crossings to suit your journey plans. You can cross as a foot passenger only or in a vehicle. My recommendation is a car share to cross as hauling kit from the ferry to the dive boat can be convoluted. Arriving in Stromness, we can load the dive boat and allocate cabins. We will sleep on board this evening.

Our last night on board will be Friday 4th August and we will depart on the crossing back to Scrabster on Saturday 5th. Again, there are three crossings that day to suit your journey plan home.

Boarding is from 13.00pm on Saturday 29th with departure by 09.00am on Saturday 5th.

Life On Board

For those who have dived with MV Valhalla and MV Valkyrie in the past, there will be some differences. The main consideration will be Covid Secure protocols. All divers should download and familiarise themselves with the Orkney and Shetland Charters Covid Secure document.

Unless otherwise agreed, diving will consist of 2 dives per day, weather conditions permitting. Further dives can be arranged as a group but additional charges will apply. Air and mixed gas fills are between 200 bar and 220 bar depending on filling conditions. Responsibility for checking that the gas mix and pressure is within tolerance for the dive rests with the diver.

For this trip, each diver will be allocated his/her cabin. Accommodation is on a B&B basis and we will arrive back in port each night. Any catering booked other than breakfast is not included in the charter fee and is payable at the end of the charter. Breakfast is served in a self catering format between 07.00am and 08.00am each day. Lunch and dinner if chosen will depend on diving activities. No meals are provided on Saturdays. Alternative diets are catered for however guests are responsible for alerting the chef to any requirements at least 7 days before the commencement of their charter. Surcharges may apply.

Pricing & Booking

You should be trained to a minimum PADI AOW Diver with Deep Speciality or equivalent and be fully conversant with UK diving. You will require a drysuit and to use a DSMB. You should have a primary and backup light. To get the most out of your trip to Scapa Flow, a PADI Tec40 or equivalent will be an advantage.

This trip is being put together by Mark Lewis. The price of all accommodation, breakfast, diving and air fills are included in the price of £700.00 per diver. Nitrox, trimix and sofnolime are extra as per the above prices. Half or full board catering is extra as per the catering price list. Ferry crossings and any other transport costs such as fuel and hotels is excluded.

To confirm the trip, Mark will need to ensure there are six divers. To register your interest, please complete the form below and when there are six divers, the full £700.00 payment will be needed.
