On 14th February 1918 she was torpedoed & sunk by UB57 under the command of Johannes Lohs while carrying grain, general cargo and munitions.
SS War Monarch was torpedoed without warning and sunk by U-Boat submarine UB-57 under the command of Johannes Lohs with three losses.
Today Alamance lays some 135 metres below the surface, well out of reach of recreational and most technical divers
